My 15 year old daughter is a singer and I am learning how to build and run my own home recording studio to help her hopefully make a singing career for herself. I have been learning so much from all your information and emails. I just know your book will help me make the biggest improvements in recording her singing.
You should give me a copy just because:
– I’m very poor
– the cover of Mixing strategies was beautiful, and this one is beautiful.
– I’m really poor
– I love ebooks
– I love quick tips.
– I’m extremely poor.
– I need starting points to record good music quickly.
– I want to get better.
– I want to record and produce local bands, friends, etc…
– Finally, even though i’m broke, I bought both your ebooks.
Vincent
PS: addition : and I suscribed to your E-course!
I would love a copy as we’re a relatively newly formed band and we want to start recording/mixing some new songs and I need help to get my head round the whole process.
Hey Björgvin(I hope I’m pronouncing thar right)! I think you should give me a copy because I was up at 2:30am mixing some songs, and decided to check my email, and low and behold, not 15 minutes earlier you are holding this competition.
I’ve just gotten so deeply into mixing and producing, and have made some huge strides in the last 9 or so months, and my mixes are getting better all the time. I didnt go to school for it, but I’m literally absorbing every peice of information I can get my hands on, and am applying it just as well. I’d really love to help out people wo dont have the time or money or opportunity to go into a studio and track there with a producer, but would like something of quality. Being a musician for years(with a wide taste in music), and now getting into the mixing side of it, I really think I could help people out, and spread some joy.
I unfortunately am not able to join Joe Gilder’s Production Club or anything at this time, as I’m still trying to find work and support myself, but earning a copy of your book would help me immensly, and I believe help the world of music altogether(even in a small way) through it’s eventual application. I have been a huge fan of your blog for a few months now, but already I’ve learned so much, your May 23rd article on Reverb was seriously incredibly, and gave me a lot to think about and apply. I’ve even gone back and read 2 more times over the weeks, and glean something new.
I love the way you simply, artfully, and sometimes hilariously describe production aspects, and I consider you a great resource of musical information. It would be proud to own and apply your book!
Hello
Just because I’m the first who wrote. And I would love to improve my knowledge
Miro
I’m an entirely self-taught home recording/mix engineer, starting 10 years ago when I was just 13 (some of my earliest recordings are virtually unlistenable, although I was asked by the BBC to create a soundtrack for them 4 years ago…!)
Since jumping from PC/Cubase to Mac/Logic last November (and discovering your site at around the same time), my techniques, knowledge and quality of mixing have all come on leaps and bounds. Now if only my initial recording techniques could follow the same route… (Maybe your book can help me?? I’d love to find out!
Kind regards,
Adam, UK.
I think I should get a copy for the simple fact that I sleep and eat music, and know that i got into this mixing game for the long haul, and reading and listening to what real mixers and engineers are talking about, and developing a style of my own. I’m always looking to improve on all I do and with my virgin ears still getting adjusted to such frequencys and tones. I work very hard to raise the bar with a goal to someday becoming a top a notable engineer, and I feel with all I’m about and strive for should get me a copy of recording strategies. If I get a copy or not? It’s good to know people are willing to help beginners on there journey. Thank you
just to know better technics to record vocals
The reason why you should choose me is that I am working on my very first EP. I wrote the songs, record them and mix them. But the thing is that I am fairly new to home recording so your book could help me so much in the making of that EP, that I’d like to make available fir download before the end of this year.
You should give me a free copy because I am looking for an organized way to record. When I sit down to record I waste a lot of time just trying to get organized. I need this bad! LIKE A FAT KID NEEDS CAKE!
Hey there! I’m just in the process of home-recording an album with my band (absent me!) and all your emails and tips have been so helpful so far. I want more, I need more, and I have no money at all (like most musicians
Thanks a lot anyway and carry on the good work!
* I’m new to recording
* Cant find any Lessons or recording schools in SRILANKA
* if i learn to record I can earn lots of money and become successful in the
music Business.
Hie,
I am Simeon from Malawi in Central Africa. I have been on your mail list for some time now because this You provide information that has beefed up my little knowledge on Music Production(Recording) though Audio Issues newsletter.
I am in music industry but this industry this side of the continent is far behind musically in recording and production. If you give me this copy of you book i will help to uplift the recording standards in Malawi and Beyond. I am opening up a recording studio which with this book will mastermind change in this industry. This is WHY You Should give me a copy. No better information on music recording and production comes anywhere than Audio Issues.
I’ve been reading your posts for a few months now. I’ve just finished a project where your advice and techniques have helped me in the mixing and mastering stages. After recording my own music for 15 years, I’m starting to feel like I’m starting to “see the matrix” – but not quite. I appreciate what you do and look forward to your info in my in-box. Thanks for doing with you do!

HI Björgvin
I think it would worth more than winning lottery,
since I have learnt most of my knowldge from your wide range of tutorials on mixing,
I must improve on recording as well.
thanks
Tassy
Just got into production, I’m so fresh and new at this. Your site helps me understand how sound works – tremendously. I’m not here for the prize, just wanted to say your work has been great so far. keep doing what you do!
PS: If the prize can help me level-up, I’d gladly accept it.
Because I want to buy both books but I cant from Serbia..so, maybe this is the only chance for me.
Love your site Björgvin. I have been visiting it every day for almost a year now. I am trying to learn everything you have to offer and would love to see it in a book. Keep up the great work!
Because I am:
An educator, teaching music technology to over 50 students
A composer, a producer and a performing artsitst with about 20 performances a year, all of which use recorded material in sme capacity
A co-director of a new music organization with a record label attached to it
Someone who finds your newsletters and online posts extremely helpful and valuable
knowing is half the battle. In order to apply the knowledge of recording, one must have the knowledge. Your book will provide me with the knowledge to help springboard my recordings to a new level.
You shouldn’t give me a copy. Because you worked hard on compiling it and deserve to be compensated for your effort and talent. Just like all hard working artists should get paid for the time, effort and love they put into their music (instead of constantly having to offer free downloads).
You should give me a copy of this book because I teach recording and audio production to high school students. Every resource I have is magnified hundreds of times because I can take what I learned and teach my students. Each year, I recommend that all my students sign up for your newsletter.
P.S. I love Iceland! I have read several Icelandic Sagas (Egil’s Saga is my favorite) and many tales and I think Bjork is hot!
WHY I should get a copy? Simply, because my own “recording strategies” sucks : i’m the worst recording engineer in the world …

Hi – I am a part time singer songwriter who has been working in the digital music arena for the last 5 years.
The one thing about music is that it is passed on to generations. I have a 14 year old son who is now showing interest in songwriting, singing and composing – music is being passed on to another generation!
This book will be in valuable for both myself and my son as we continue our journey into recording.
Either way – thanks very much!
I’ve been a musician for 42 years. Recently, i had a stroke which left me unable play anymore. I’m starting a sound co, and in the process of building a sudio. I am sure this book could help me more you realize. DOUG PHILLIPS
i’d like to learn from experienced hands to hone my skills at producing music
I love your writing on this subject. You really have a grasp of things.
Me, maybe not so much; just need to feed my family or die trying.
Cheers
Why should I win the free copy of “Recording Strategies”?
So many people have good enough reason to want this book for free. For me, I just want to develop another strength other than musical performance. As I type this, I’m preparing to embark on another musical journey in corporate and formal/wedding entertainment after five years doing the same with another band. It’s not a bad thing, mind you. Just not where I wanted my year to go.
I’m just now starting to understand that there is more to my musical existence than live performance. I think it would be wise to develop a new skill and mindset in the trade. I’m just starting to understand the importance of a decent microphone, a preamp with headroom, and a properly treated room…and how together, they can help capture the qualities of a performance that you feel are worth recording and sharing with others.
I’ll be honest. I intend to buy it, anyway. It could be a nice gift to receive, possibly pushing me in the direction that I’m looking toward.
In any event, keep writing, and keep doing what you do. We all enjoy your work, and appreciate your effort.
Thanks,
-Jim
Hi Bjorgvin
I’m assuming you’re immune to shameless flattery being the unwaveringly principled and ethical ..(did I mention that I consider you a genius in your field)…also did I say how wonderfully generous I think you are to even make this stupendous offer)..person that you are! Given all that then it’s safe to say that a book of such epically brilliant proportions (..is it too early to call it a classic of the genre?…I THINK NOT!!…) (..and all this by just looking at the cover!) …now that’s what you call a real classic man, I mean just think of all the classic album covers…i’m thinking ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Are You Experienced’…the list just goes on and on….and I say you’re in that category man! …okay it’s not stricltly music you’re putting out here, but hey…come on lets not split hairs now!
On a personal note I’m reminded at this emotional time of that classic scene from Sylvester Stallone’s 1987 film ‘Over the Top’ in which the final contestants in the arm wrestling competition who stand to win a magnificent red truck are being interviewed and the question is asked as to their motivation for winning to which the standard answer from all the other contestants goes something along the lines of how ‘bad ass’ and ‘tough’ and ‘mean dog’ they are, and which Stallone’s character ‘Lincoln Hawk’ merely answers in a stirring deadpan with: ‘I need the truck man’.
Bjorgvin I should probably win on the length of that previous sentence alone!
…….So with much pleading and a fiery glint of passionate hope in my soul and left eye (…I say in as dignified a manner as I possibly can..) …I need the truck (book) man! ..
p.s did I mention that you’re my hero……………………you literary genius you!
Sincerely ….in rock n’ roll
Wayne
Bjorgvin=genius
Björgvin, we’d love a copy of your great audio course, and it will go viral as we are a teaching facility for future recording engineers. We will incorporate you great advice in the information we give our students.
http://paradisemusiccamp.com/instructors/clay_reid.html
cos u wil need me to help u out someday
Please excuse my first comment as I can’t think straight so early in the morning hence the confusion of Bjorn with Bjorgvin….I was blurring mental scenes of Sylvester Stallone with Wimbledon tennis from the 80′s and Bjorn Borg ..which is very psychedelic in it’s own right…cheers
I am a proud father of 2 very talented sons who play in a band called Culprit. As teenage bands go, they are very good and quite in demand in the Tampa Bay area. I support their passion for music by hauling equipment, setting up gigs, coaching in the areas of business and in negotiations. (although they rarely listen to me) as well as trying to help them with recording. I fortunately leave the music making part to them. I admit, the stuff I record doesn’t sound very good when compared to the originals they recorded in a professional studio. (Kudos and as always, many thanks to Jim Morris and Morrisound Studios, Tampa) Meaning, I’m in need of serious help when it comes to helping out in this area. How many fathers go to this length to support their kids in pursuit of stardom? Call me a sucker!
(Hear their originals here http://www.facebook.com/theculpritrocks/app_178091127385) No. I did not record these.
As for my son’s, one is entering college as a music ed major. The youngest actually believes he wants to study recording arts after he graduates from high school. What a great head start this would provide him!
Any thing I can do to help them further their ambitions, I am all in!
Thanks!
I am probably not as advanced as some of the other folks commenting here but have just gotten started with mixing and will soon have my iMac and interface. Something like this would really help. Thank you
You should give me a copy because, I will learn from it just as I did with Mixing Strategies. I am not a band, I am a level entry remixer that loves to record sounds all around me, so I can put them to use in my tracks. Thank you.
Hey Björgvin…hello from Canada! Ever since I came across your site my thought process and mixing have improved a hundred times over! Me and recording go way back to the days of my first Fostex 4 track casette recorder, a cheap knockoff of an SM57 mic and a few ideas….who remembers putting the cassette in on side B and recording a sustained power chord backwards for that amazing special effect? Because I like to have “manuals” close at hand, I have built an extensve library of you articles, printed in color and categorized. For the sake of the environmnet (both paper and ink) if you were kind enough to send me a copy of the new book, together we’d save a lot of trees!!! Keep up the great work…as I read the comments on this site, it is clear to see you have influenced and inspired a lot of people. Long live music and the creative souls that like to get it down on “tape”!!!
Hi – I would like a copy because I can tell you know what you’re doing, and this will help to radically improve my recordings. I am in the process of recording an album at home right now and it will eventually see the light of day. Once it’s done, people will ask ‘How did you get your songs to sound that good?” and I will say ‘I owe it all to Björgvin Benediktsson!’ Here’s to making awesome music. Cheers!
Been tracking these songs for the last 4 years and now its time to make them sound like an album….My mixes so far sound like someone’s (Myself) has thrown a blanket over the speakers….where do i get the sparkle….how do I make these dials, knobs and faders sound like my imagination?
i would love to get this .. and will buy it anyways – i’m just about to record some experimental gong music for some people and lord i need a strategy – and if i were to win this is means i could give the $$ to this guy for opening up his website for the weekend – http://www.musicsoftwaretraining.com/members-only-streaming-videos/
I deserve to win because my comment was the shortest and easiest to read!
I need a copy of Recording Strategies because I’m stubborn.
I read your blog “What the Global Financial Crisis Can Teach You About Your Mixes” and even though I don’t think I have Viking blood, I’m stubborn – doing things wrong when I think that I know what I’m doing. So, I need to learn what I’m doing wrong and change my ways (but I’m not going to admit it).
a.a.
I need a copy of Recording Strategies because I am just beginning to record in my bedroom and want to make sure I do it as well as possible.
I just bought a copy of Mixing Strategies a week or so ago, and missed out on the combo deal.
And I’m all out of $ for the month!
SadPatrick
Greetings,
I think I deserve a copy for 4 very good reasons:
1. I’m poor. Sadness.
2. My studio was broken into 2 years ago, and 80% of my equipment was stolen. Fender P bass, Telecaster, various synths, Avid interface, pedals, cables, books, sound proofing LOTRs figure collection. . . . you name it.
3. I was turned down for school in Iceland. I applied 2 years ago for the film scoring studies program, and sadly Iceland would not take me. Probably had to do with not knowing the language, but still . . . very sad. : (
4. I like books!
What is there to say, really? I am hungry for knowledge! Any wisdom I can pick up can only help aid me, and those that i mentor. What better way to teach than to take all different points of views into account! What’s the phrase? Lead by example?
Can’t wait to check this warlock out!
Cheers!
Very difficult question to begin with. I only can assure that I will read and apply all the concepts to get better recordings. It will be used.
Mate que grande eres!!!
Me alegro que te vaya tan bien con tus libros de audio! eres un figura!
Un abrazo
You should give me a copy beacuse I’m italian and we don’t have any writer who writes books like this!!
I would like a free copy to help me move from the analog world to digital. I have been around this industry for more than 40+ years, but only recently came to the world of digital recording after many years away. I am a song writer, singer, musician, producer, and have just recently built a small studio in my home call Lattice Worxx. The concepts from analog to digital are similar, but the understanding of the technology needed is holding me back from being as creative as I would like. I have much to offer not only to myself but to others who are just starting out. I have been in a well know studios recently (one of the oldest running studios in the world) assisting in production. My ear is as good as ever, most likely better because of experience. Again, it’s the technical side I’m needing to improve. I’m sure you can help. A sample of some of my work is available at reverbnation.com/chuck sadosky Thanks. Chuck Sadosky
I am first-time co-producing and self-engineering a debut EP. I have found that incorporating your techniques and tips has been very useful and will continue to use them as the basis for all of our future recordings. If I win a copy of Recording Strategies I will credit you and your techniques on the cover. The insights you are providing are a very valuable accompaniment to any newcomer creating a production on a tight budget. Thanks.
Hi Bjorgvin,
I think you should give me a copy of Recording Strategies because I bought a copy of Mixing Strategies and I need both to produce the music I have written. Thank you. Jerome Dempsey South Africa
WOW, so many asking for the book. Me too. I’ve no reason that is any better than anyone else, just joining in the chance to win. Thanks
I need a copy !!, because with out it i’am lost.
I don’t really think I should get the book, but I do love your advice and it has helped a whole lot. I do think the book would be easier to look things up rather then going thru email after email to find what I need. And the cover is awfully cool so it would look great on my console. Well, thats it, its up to you but again thanks for all your advice.
Jim
If you send me a copy, I’ll help you sell more copies.Just for the fact that you did so. For real.
I want to thank you for your fine work. I really appreciate your simple and straight forward approach to all things musical. I learn something every time I visit your website or read one of your emails. Thank.
I really want to win it! I am self-taught drummer and this year I bought an equipment to record my drums
but I do not have much experiences with recording and mastering at all.
So I think it will be great help and I can then recommend it to other people…
Hi Björgvin!
I am a long time subscriber and reader of this blog, and your partner sites blog including Joe Gilder and Ian Shepherd, I was a Production Club 2.0 member before you announced freebies this week when you enroll the PC2 open course.. so I sit throuh all the 18 week courses once, and really enjoyed it. And also a member of Ian’s Home Mastering Masterclass course too. And besides miximng and mastering the missing phase of production is the recording process.:) Thanks in advance,
I am an upcoming artist with great feedback from fans. One main problem, the mixing process. I am working hard to make my music sound as good as it can be and this book can help me.
Recording at our small christian fellowship is a new endeavour. Most of our CDs are in Norwegian recorded by young people in our “mother church” which was founded there generations ago and has a lot or resources. We have a lot of fine musicians and will be recording original works but our first job will be recording good quality lyrics in English over the accompaniment tracks from Norway. We just finished building a small studio and vocal booth in someone’s garage and I’ve been asked to be the primary engineer/producer. Probably because of the technical knowledge, have been playing bass since 1964, and I’m willing to learn another skill set and teach others. I’ve been following your articles/emails and those of Joe Gilder.
I’m finding the topic much deeper than I anticipated and looking for any and all help I can get. I’ve been going to the recording classes at the Guitar Center and I’m asking around for recommendations for a good book – especially if it has Cubase 6 tips in it.
Thanks for the time that you and Joe and others volunteer to help us struggling home studio amatuers.
Coz i dont need öne. would be nice tö vîew yöur ever humble behind under my microscope though…. i’m kidding, í’m kidding(jack&jill)
Would make lövely jail time reading…. i’m kidding, i’m kidding
Coz i’m sticking you up. händ over the preciöus!!!!! .
would make a lovely birthday gift for me. june 23rd. lotsa love
Thänks
Hi Björgvin, It’s me again.
I have actually just been given the opportunity to attend the Production Club, and so I think it would be better to revoke my ‘case’ for the competition, and let someone else who doesnt have the opportunity and needs it more to have it.
Amazing this protect. Hope you succes. Good luck
I need it & I WILL USE IT!
Just because I will never get it any other way…..not the slickest post, but the most honest!
hello I have grow up around music and have been play and recording since the mid 90s. when i was a young teen.I always thought I knew about the recording side when one day I ended up with my first copy of a recording soft wear. And my life has neaver been the same just like that i went from 4 track to casset to tech specs you would have had to pay out the ass to get to even be recorded by much less have all your own. this year i learned a lot befor that i did not even know how to mic my drums or even hook mor than one mic to my computer. long storie short. I thought i was getting the hang of all of it when one day i see you add ,asking if i do all these thing and when i realized i do and no i dont know what im doing. but the best thing that happened then was i realized that it was good .cuz since some one could tell me what i was doing wrong i could learn to do right soon i will be incontrol of this thing i still look at emails and get pumped.just for stuff like this…………..n
BECAUSE you want to
To be perfectly honest, I can’t think of a specific reason why you should give me a copy. As an Audio Engineering and Recording Artist student, I feel the knowledge I could gain from receiving a copy of Recording Strategies would benefit my quest to learn as much as I can possibly about recording techniques. The information I have received from your site is priceless and has improved my audio recording skills exponentially. Win or loose, I will continue to link to your site as I feel it is one of the best if not the best sites that offers amateurs and pros the best knowledge about audio. Thank you for your consideration….Sine
You should give me a copy beacuse I need it
I teach audio engineering to high school students. They need a clear set of strategies to help guide them through the recording process. Your book could help the next generation of Grammy winning engineers.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. To win a copy of Recording Strategies, will help me to progress and to become successful in my career.
Because I might be a genius & I can quote you as being my main inspiration….. And that could potentially make you millions… Perhaps !!!
Dear Bjorgvin
I am from South Africa and I recently purchased your “Mixing Strategies” at a huge cost because my currency is 8.30 to the $1. I have battled for the last twenty years to set up my own home studio and at last I have a simple studio that I can use to help myself and a number of poverty-srticken musicians from the land of Nelson Mandela.
As a result of apartheid, I never had the opportunity of learning formal music because non-whites were not allowed in schools to have a formal music education. I bought a cheap guitar for 1$ in 1978 and learned to play from a book.
Everything I had done, I learned from books. Recently, with some help from a friend who did this free for me, I released my first rock music video on YouTube. Check out KINX-HEARTBREAKER. I am the guy in the beanie singing the song.
Your “Mixing Strategies” has been of great help for a struggling home studio musician like me and since I battle with the high cost of the dollar currency, I would deem it an honour to win a copy of your new book “RECORDING STRATEGIES”.
It is thanks to many people like you on the net that many of us who have negligible experience of recording studios can develop our music talents.
Therefore, I believe firmly that one candle can light a million candles and in essence we are all those beautiful potential candles.
Even if I do not win a copy of your book, I am delighted that some struggling musician like me will receive it and reap the benefits of your knowledge thereof. At least you have made it possible through your generosity for someone to prosper.
God bless you.
Rajdev Nundkumar
Hello sir,
I want to learn and its a great need for me. God bless and thank you for such an offer.
George
Hi Bjorgvin,
I would greatly appreciate the book. I am recording and mixing a couple album projects in my home studio and I am always looking for tips on how to do things better. I have done a few projects in the past and they turned out pretty well but there is always room for improvement. My sons are musicians and are getting into recording now so they would also benefit from your book. I have really benefitted from your emais.
Thank you,
Kirk Reese
Good afternoon,
I’m a musician from Portugal, and I’m trying to produce my own album with a good audio capture and a good strategy.
A strategy also so that words can be weapons against the economic interests and many more bad things that happen around the world.
Because the voice is the only weapon.
A voice for the disadvantaged and forgotten people in this world and especially in my country.
Inequalities are increasingly visible and therefore close to 1 million people took to the streets shouting for change!
With your help I will be stronger and that strength and some chords on the guitar will go to everyone I can and that lives around me!
Who lives to live, instead of living life doing what really makes sense?
Make music and use it for change!
Sorry about my english: P
Hugs for all
