From a nice but flat mix to a final mix with depth and character (Case Study)
As I’ve told you before, I like hearing student progress throughout the 5-week Mixing With 5 Plug-ins course.
One of my students, Howard Rabach, was gracious enough to let me use his mix as an example of his results in the course.
In week 3 we finish our compression video and at that point the mixes are already starting to sound good.

Even though EQ and compression makes it sound much better than with just simple levels (obviously) it’s the addition of reverb and delay that adds so much more depth to the mix. And with some additional saturation for character Howard ended up with a really great sounding final mix.
