The Day Superstar Mixer Tom Lord-Alge Asked ME for Money
Did I ever tell you the story when Tom Lord-Alge asked me for money to get home from London?
If you don’t know who Tom Lord-Alge is, he’s a big-shot mixing engineer with credits such as Green Day, Marilyn Manson, The Rolling Stones under his belt.
He’s the younger brother of Chris Lord-Alge, another superstar mixing engineer.
Anyway, I naively tried to contact Tom on Facebook one time, thinking I could score an interview with him. I sent my friend request and then I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
I guess superstar mixing engineers don’t care that much about audio bloggers.
But one day a notification popped up. “Tom Lord-Alge has accepted your friend request.”
Awesome!
And almost immediately he popped up in a chat-box and started talking to me.
I thought, “sweet! I can get a good time for him to set up an interview.”
But then he started asking me for money…?
He said he was stranded in London after being mugged and he had no money to get home. This struck me as extremely weird. Not necessarily the mugging because awful stuff happens to people, but why on earth was he asking me?
Didn’t he have rich as $#!t brothers he could ask for help?
This all sounded a little sketchy, especially when he asked me to wire him money with Western Union. Massive red flag right there, and obviously someone looking for a good scam.
So I evaded his questions for a little while longer. I was in a boring class at school that day so I had nothing better to do than to amuse myself with Fake Lord-Alge.
And a few minutes later I receive a chat notification that says “I’ve been HACKED!”
Somebody must have tipped the real Tom off to this hacker but before I could actually get around to asking him for an interview, he deleted his account and vanished. I guess even superstar mixing engineers aren’t immune from sleazy Facebook hackers.
Oh well, so much for my hot-shot interview. Maybe sometime down the line somebody will send him this link.
If you know him send him my way. If you don’t, I have some of his brother’s mixing tips inside Mixing Strategies. Chris Lord-Alge’s take on bussing, comping and simplifying mixes is just a small part of the tricks inside Mixing Strategies.
