Tell us your name, age and where you live.
Hello there! My name is Devon Nutty. I am 18 years old, and I am from Brantford Ontario.
How did you get interested in audio engineering and music production?
From a young age i was very interested in learning audio engineering. I started getting into it when i was around 12 years old.  I didn’t
know much about sound, i was recording a cover of a “One Republic” song with a Rock Band USB microphone, and a crappy guitar that went line in to my macbook.
After recording that song I started to research a little more about Audio engineering. I think that is when I really decided it was something I might want to keep doing as a career one day.
Where are you studying audio now and what will you diploma/degree be in?
I am currently enrolled at OIART in London Ontario. I am learning all aspects of sound recording at the moment, but at the end of the year i am hoping to focus my studies on Audio for Pictures and Sound Design
What’s the most challenging thing about music production and engineering?
I think the most challenging thing about music production is having the ears to be able to know what a \”Good\” mix sounds like opposed to what a “Bad” Mix sounds like. You could of had the best marks in audio school, but when it comes down to it if you don\’t have the ears mxiing can be hard.
What’s the most entertaining aspect of working with audio and music?
I think the most entertaining aspect in the music side of things, would have to be getting to lay down the essential bed tracks, and
figuring out what sounds you want to use to stay true to the song.Figuring out new sounds using different microphones, or even differen microphone placements can be very fun.
What are your plans after graduation?
After Graduation, I have a connection in England i am hoping to get in contact with to set up a internship at Abby Roads Studio. Also while in England through the same connection I will be assisting for sound at the Reading Festival. After learning what I can from those experiences I hope to get a job in film, wether it be in Post/Location audio.
Anything else you would like to add?
OIART is a great school if any of you reading are thinking about choosing Audio Engineering as a career. I would recommend it to all of you !
